Author of H1N1 article lied about credentials

October 6, 2009 by Joe Newman

An article touting a new H1N1 vaccine that appeared on the Web site American Chronicle identifies the author as someone who works for Public Citizen’s Health Research Group. The problem is that the author, “Dr. Pablo Romanus,” has never worked, consulted or contracted with Public Citizen in any way. In fact, we’ve never heard of Romanus and have no idea if he’s even a real person.

The Street.com’s Adam Feuerstein brought the Romanus article to our attention when he called us Monday. Feuerstein raises questions about Romanus in his blog post “Cel-Sci Booster’s Identity in Question.”

I am a shareholder is Cel-Sci Corp…What the hell is going on with this Dr. Romanus issue? How did he post on your site without your permission? Are you seeking to track down the poster? I would love for your site to a invite a Cel-Sci rep to be interviewed by your site as I believe it would prove to be good press. Is your company seeking any course of action to assist the management at Cel-Sci with this issue?

Okay, let me try to explain this again. No one named Pablo Romanus has ever worked for Public Citizen in any capacity. Ever. We don’t know anyone by that name. We’ve never talked to anyone by that name.

Dr. Romanus, if he even exists, has never posted an article on this blog, Citizenvox.org or on our main Web site, Citizen.org, or on any site owned or operated by Public Citizen.

An article written by someone supposedly named Dr. Pablo Romanus appeared on a Web site called the American Chronicle and on another site called the World Sentinel. Public Citizen has nothing to do with those sites. We didn’t even know those sites existed until this week.

We are making no statements about Cel-Sci or any of its products. The only intent of this blog post was to disavow any relationship with anyone named Pablo Romanus. We have no idea if he’s a real person or just a made up name.

I’ve seen comments on bulletin boards questioning the legitimacy of this blog. This blog, Citizenvox.org, is owned and operated by Public Citizen. The main Public Citizen site can be found at http://www.citizen.org. If you visit Citizen.org, you will find a link there that will bring you back to this blog.

Deputy Director of Communications for Public Citizen
